Edgworth B Home
9th April 2019
Heaton Village: 140 - Edgworth B: 115
The visitors for our first home match of the 2019 season were Edgworth B. After the problems with the fading light at the previous match both Captains agreed to start the match slightly early.
Our first four players, including Ross Cowie who had forgotten what it was like to play in daylight, all had good wins and gave a sound platform for second four.
Unfortunately the first three of the second four couldn’t secure wins although they did gain a decent number of points. Going into the final game Heaton were ahead on points and though the final game was heading for a defeat for Heaton which would have resulted in 4 wins each, there would have been a narrow points victory for Heaton. However.......
Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Edgworth’s player as much as had his hat and coat on ready to leave being ahead 20 points to 15 but he hadn’t reckoned on Mike ‘never say die’ Shinks.
In front of an excited and vocal crowd Mike played through the pain of his dodgy knee and with superhuman effort and pinpoint accuracy managed to secure a win. The final end saw Mike drop his second bowl within an inch of the jack. Edgworth’s player couldn’t match it and as his bowl sailed past the jack the home crowd erupted into applause and cheering. A person ran onto the pitch, he thought it was all over.....and it was!
A great all round team performance, a fantastic effort from Mike and a thoroughly enjoyable evening with thanks to the Edgworth team for playing in such good spirit
